This divergence picks up at the end of Dragon Ball Z. Year 797 of the Dragon Ball era – the planet has finally found a state of peace and with Uub trained to use his potential, Son Goku has settled down with his family once again. With their children now teenagers and the Z warriors aging gracefully, it seems as though there can be no more trouble in the world. Even those who oversee the Heavens have fallen into a state of blissful laziness as the universe regained its balance. However, an unseen adversary has been lurking in quiet observation, waiting for an opportunity to draw out of the shadows of the past and disrupt the light of the present. It is the future that is at stake now, and the Z warriors will face a different kind of challenge than they've encountered in their earlier foes.

The new captain of the Flying Dutchman has a large task ahead of him. After hundreds of centuries of neglect, the Dutchman's duty has multiplied exponentially and proves to be a daunting task for any sailor. Maintaining a capable and dedicated crew is only the start of the new captain's problems as he quickly learns that death favors no one and that friends and foes alike can die at sea. The job seems ill-suited to a young man who is full of life even in death and must leave all that he holds dear as he sets out to sea for a decade, and that spark of life threatens to wane as he begins down the inexorable dark path that Davy Jones had walked. It's up to the crew of the Flying Dutchman to stave off their captain's descent into corruption to save both him and themselves. |

This divergence picks up after the end of Dead Man's Chest with the rescue of Captain Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones's Locker. However, Jack finds himself quickly ensnared in yet another trap of Jones's design, and this time he's accompanied by Will Turner and James Norrington. Jones is not taking the loss of his heart to Cutler Beckett lightly, and his plans for these three men include making them pay dearly for allowing it to fall into Beckett's hands. Meanwhile, the crew of the Black Pearl is not taking the loss of their recently-recovered captain and good friend well. With Barbossa at the helm, they set out to find any means possible of getting Jack and Will back without losing their own lives in the process. While undertaking this endeavour, they discover that the Aztec gold may not have been the only curse on the Black Pearl.
